Data Science Projects
At the Jan 2014 AAS conference I learned about Data Science. Since then I've been using my free time to learn as much as I can about this subject.
In particular, I've learned the Python computer language via CodeAcademy.com as well as the "Interactive Programming in Python" course at Coursera.org. Also I've just embarked upon the Data Science course at Coursera.org. In my research I've started a new project to obtain photometry of a severely blended star using Python code.
At Yale we've started a discussion group around the newly published textbook "Statistics, Data Mining, and Machine Learning in Astronomy."
I'm so excited to be learning these new skills, not only to assist me in my research at Yale but also to open up possibilities of a new career in Data Science. I'll be posting new (and hopefully useful) code and projects here (and github.com) as I create them over the next few months. Stay tuned!
