Outreach

I am regularly involved in science outreach programs in support of my community, early-career scientists, and the general public. I aim to share science broadly through organized programs, classroom visits, and other media. Read about some of the projects that I have been involved in below.

Check out my 3-minute thesis video, which was awarded the Best in STEM award in Yale's 2021 3-minute thesis competition, at the link here.

Public Talks

I have delivered dozens of non-academic talks at both public and private events, sharing scientific advances with diverse audiences. These have included both in-person and virtual visits, and I have spoken about topics including my research, general overviews of astronomy, and career paths in STEM. Please get in touch if you are interested in having me speak at your event.

astro[sound]bites

I was one of the three founding members of astro[sound]bites, the podcast spinoff of Astrobites. I also served a co-host on the podcast from 2019-2022, or Episodes 0 through 55. On astro[sound]bites, astronomy graduate students discuss recent papers that have been highlighted by Astrobites. The co-hosts focus on connections between papers and underlying themes across subfields, tying together multiple Astrobites within the broader picture of current astronomy research. Check out all of our episodes on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Play, and Soundcloud.

Yale's Girls' Science Investigations

From 2017-2021, I was a regular volunteer with Yale's Girls' Science Investigations, a free program designed to motivate and empower young women interested in science. This program hosts approximately 4 events per year, during which 200-300 middle school girls come to the Yale Physics Department for a day full of physics-themed activities. Through this program, I have guided participants through hands-on projects, presented scientific background as an Activity Leader, run science demos, and served on panels to answer questions about careers in science.

Yale's Open Labs

From 2017-2021, I was a regular volunteer with Yale's Open Labs. Open Labs organizes science demo events at local schools, as well as semi-regular Science Café events on Yale's campus. During these events, local middle school students discuss science with Yale graduate students, listen to research talks and poster presentations, and participate in hands-on science demos. I have provided on-site support and shared my love of science with hundreds of young students through this initiative.

Astronomy on Tap New Haven

From 2018-2021, I served as the head coordinator for the New Haven branch of Astronomy on Tap. Astronomy on Tap is an international science outreach program that brings astronomy to the general public through fun, engaging talks in local bars. I planned and organized all New Haven events during this time frame, coordinating talks, volunteers, and general event logistics.

The Leitner Family Observatory and Planetarium

From 2017-2020, I was a regular presenter at the Leitner Family Observatory and Planetarium (LFOP) at Yale University. I ran public planetarium shows, provided support for telescope observing, and discussed astronomy with visitors during weekly public nights. I also provided support for special events taking place at LFOP, including school visits, special tours of the facility, and public science talks.
