About me

My website has moved to christopherspalding.net!

I am a 51 Pegasi b Postdoctoral Fellow in Yale University's Astronomy Department. Much of my previous research has focused primarily upon deciphering the origin and evolution of planetary systems around other stars ("exoplanets"). However, my interests vary widely, including the various formation pathways that cause planetary systems to differ from our own, the factors governing mass extinctions in Earth's history, and the mystery of how the Earth was habitable 3.5 billion years ago, despite the expectation that our young Sun was singificantly fainter. I enjoy utilizing simplified mathematical methods to extract important lessons from complicated phenomena. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any comments about my published work, or if you have any projects on which you are interested in collaborating.
