Exam Information

"Helpsheet" of formulae and constants handed out with exams

What to bring:: Bring a calculator, bring a pen or pencil, bring a brain. We will provide a helpsheet listing (although not explaining) formulae, physical constants, and unit conversions.

The format of all exams:: Roughly 50% problems, 50% Multiple choice and short written answers.

What to study:: The material from the lectures and homeworks will be emphasized. Use the book to help you understand the material in the lectures.

What the Mid-term Exam (Feb 23) will cover:

Classroom lectures & associated Readings in Universe up to and including MON Feb 14
Homeworks #1 - #4

What the Final Exam will emphasize:

Classroom lectures from Feb 14 thru the end of the semester
Homeworks #5 - #9
Assigned Readings in Universe -- Chapters 22-27
There is some overlap with the first exam. Topically, you are responsible for everything starting with the Milky Way Galaxy, even though some of the Milky Way material was also covered on the first exam. While material from the first few weeks of the course will not be emphasized on the exam, you are responsible for knowing things from these first few weeks that become relevant for later material, e.g., Newton's Laws, properties of light, electromagnetic spectrum, blackbody radiation, atoms.

Final Exam information:

FINAL will be held on Thursday May 5 at 2pm in OML 202.
late FINAL will be on Monday May 9 at 2pm in WLH 119 (anyone can take the late final but you must email Prof. Kenney if you want to do so)
