The Yale Astronomy Department will host a weekend symposium honoring the career of Bill van Altena, to be held at Yale University on September 20th and 21st, 2008.  Invited speakers and a number of contributed talks will cover topics to which Bill has devoted his professional life:
  • astrometry (and the future of astrometry)
  • fundamental stellar properties
  • star clusters
  • stellar kinematics
  • galactic structure
A full day of sessions on Saturday, September 20th will be followed by a banquet Saturday evening.  The symposium will continue with a half day of sessions on Sunday, September 21st.
