SMARTS Consortium
ANDICAM and CTIO 1.3m Telescope
Email Lists
To provide information to SMARTS consortium members and ANDICAM users in
a relatively low-maintenance way, we have set up a number of topical
mailing lists hosted by Yale University. SMARTS consortium
members and guest investigators from the astronomical community assigned
time with ANDICAM at the CTIO 1.3m telescope through the NOAO TAC are
invited to subscribe to these lists as their interests dictate. You can
also unsubscribe yourself at any time.
PIs are automatically notified
by email when data for their programs are acquired, so there is no need
for regular astronomers to sign up for the nightly report or log
mailings. However, should you be interested in such logs, both are are
archived online at the ANDICAM website. A small
subset of consortium users will want to subscribe to the logs and report
lists, but should contact Michelle Buxton at Yale before doing so
(question: do you really want 2 emails of dubious relevance every
morning?).
Follow these links to learn more about the various ANDICAM email lists:
- Purpose:
- Distribution of ASCII copies of the nightly data logs.
- Intended Audience:
- Members of the SMARTS consortium
responsible for observing operations.
- Note to users: We have instituted a PI autonotification
system that sends out email to project PIs with copies of the relevant
log excerpts when targets from your projects have been observed. This
is a much better option than receiving blind copies of the entire log
from every night and then expecting you to hunt through the logs to see
if any of your objects were observed. As such, old user subscribers to
andicam-logs have been removed from the list as of 2004 May 1, and moved
to the autonotification system.
- Frequency:
- Daily. Data logs are generated automatically and mailed
each morning at 0900 Chilean Time. Logs run from noon the previous
day until noon the following day (but since there is no activity
between about 0800 and 1159, we mail them at 0900 as a convenience).
Logs arrive every day following a night of observing, or if no observing
occurred and there are no logs, a note to that effect is mailed.
- Subscription Policy: Open with restrictions.
- Subscriptions are subject to approval. In general, subscription will
be restricted to ANDICAM operations personnel from the partner institutions.
Other requests must be forwarded in writing (email) to the list manager
Michelle Buxton.

- Distribute nightly observing reports submitted by the on-site queue
observers.
- Intended Audience:
- SMARTS members reponsible for observing operations, the ANDICAM instrument
scientists, and CTIO liasons.
- Frequency:
- Daily, except during long shutdown periods. Receipt is usually
in the morning, depending on when the observers have filed the report.
