Overview
As the use of computers is integral to Astronomy, the department has a variety of computers systems available for both graduate and undergraduate students. Computer resources include a Linux PC on every student desk.
Infrastructure includes a fully switched Gigabit network, a department-wide wireless network and a range of backup & peripheral devices. We have several multi-processor systems designated for computational work. We access university resources such as a file transfer facility , remote backup/storage facility and beowulf-style HPC clusters. We also have an undergraduate computer lab and remote observing facilities for KECK and WIYN Observatories.
Our department staff includes a full time system administrator. We host over 170 computers and members have over 60 Terabytes of disk space at their disposal.
