The Yale/San Juan Southern Proper Motion Program
William van Altena, Terry Girard, Dana Casetti,
The Southern Proper Motion program (SPM) is a collaborative effort of the Yale Southern Observatory and the Universidad Nacional de San Juan (Argentina) to determine absolute proper motions and B,V photometry for stars in the southern sky. In November 2009 the fourth edition of the SPM catalog was completed. The SPM4 covers the sly south of -20 degrees declination and is approximately complete to a limiting magnitude of V=17.5. It includes over 100 million stars and galaxies, with absolute proper motions tied to external galaxies and to the ICRS via Hipparcos stars at the bright end. Cross reference to 2MASS identifiers is also given.
For more information, or to download the catalog, visit the SPM4 Catalog page.
