The Public Outreach for the Transit of Venus on June 5, 2012 was a Huge Success.
We gave away 150 packets from NASA which included solar eclipse glasses, gave away another 100 solar eclipse glasses, we had 4 solar telescopes out with which to view the transit, a live feed from a telescope in Hawaii, 240 people saw planetarium shows, and we had several family friendly hands-on activities. This is the single largest public outreach we have ever had.
I thank all of the volunteers who staffed the telescopes, greeted the public at the reception table, supervised the craft activity and demonstrations, answered questions from the public, assisted in the planetarium, and were generally helpful in making the experience pleasant to the visitors. We could not have done it without you.
