Stars in Motion: A Symposium in Honor of Bill van Altena
September 20-21, 2008 - Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut
The Yale Astronomy Department will hold a weekend symposium honoring the career of Bill van Altena, to be held at Yale University on September 20th and 21st, 2008. Invited speakers and a number of contributed talks will cover topics to which Bill has devoted his professional life; astrometry (including the future of astrometry), fundamental stellar properties, star clusters, stellar kinematics and galactic structure.
A full day of sessions on Saturday, September 20th will be followed by a banquet that evening. The symposium will continue with a half day of sessions on Sunday, September 21st. There is a very limited number of slots available for contributed talks. Please get your requests in early if you would like to make a contribution.
We are hoping to make this a memorable celebration of Bill's career as well as a scientifically interesting symposium. So please spread the word to those you feel might be interested in attending.
