The weather was beautiful, and the rag-tag band that makes up FIS trounced its highly disciplined UNIFORMED opponent (which was EPH 'Outbreak', by the way...I goofed up last week saying we would play the Law School). FIS jumped to a 5-0 lead in the 1st, and it was smooth sailing from there. By the end of the 2nd, it was 11-1. After that, FIS 'watched their noses' and 'stayed tight' (people seemed to have a problem with my odd, but well-intentioned, cliches), and finished with a 20-8 victory. Terry, who many of us are accustomed to playing a fine game, played perhaps the finest game I've seen in my softball life. His dazzling "black-hole" defense was coupled with two three-run homers and a triple. If you weren't there, you missed quite a show. Not to be overshadowed was Dan, in his next-to-the-last game, who hit for the cycle -- with a single in the first, homer in the second, triple in the fourth, and double in the fifth. May I continue? I've-never-played-softball-before Bethany contributed her part with 3 RBIs -- my favorite shot being over the head of the shortstop, who was playing in and clearly underestimating her abilities. Of course none of this is to take away from the team effort -- which was nothing short of awesome. Hats off to everyone! Doug PS -- The timely last-minute arrival of the contigent of ladies was what made the game possible. Please come out....even if you haven't played, we'll show you the ropes. After that, there's a mysterious two week break until Oct. 27. Doug
