I say rag-tag, because, after intense recruitments efforts during the day in order to avoid the catastrophe of a forfeit, we fielded a squad of first-timers (at least for this season) and seasoned vets playing positions they'd never played before. The victory of the day was pulling off a game, if not a win. Although not ending favorably, it was truly the most exciting game of the season. FIS took the slow and steady approach, tacking on a few runs an inning for the first five. Engineering had the big inning -- a fourth inning with seven runs in which their best couple hitters showed up twice with the bases loaded (hmmmm). By the sixth, it was tied 13-13. Both teams buckled down and kept the sixth scoreless. Unfortunately, FIS remained scoreless in the top of the seventh, allowing Engineering to plate the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Still...there were a few stars in the game. Nine to be exact . . . hats off to everyone who showed and to those who found a friend or two to help out (a.k.a.m.v.p Barbara). I hope to see our new friends out there again. The loss, however, brings us to 3 wins and 3 losses. . .making the next game a must-win, if we are to get into the playoffs. The next game will be against Hard Drivers -- the Physical Plant folks. It will be next Thursday, the 18th. Until next week, Doug P.S. thanks also to those who let me know they weren't coming. That was really important as well, because if you hadn't let us know, we wouldn't have been prepared today.
