Date: Fri, 31 May 2002 04:00:43 EDT From: DWoodwell1@aol.com Subject: softball results Hey everyone, HEARTBREAK for FIS was the result of the first game of the summer. After taking a five run lead into the seventh inning, we ended up losing by a run. FIS sprung to a 5-1 lead early. By the end of the fifth inning, the score was 10-3 in our favor. However, things went downhill from there. A three-run sixth inning for Mismatched Bases brought them in range. Needing five runs in the last inning, Mismatched Bases managed to score six. FIS went down silently in the last half of the inning. Neverthless, there were some high points in the game for FIS. The DEFENSE was better than it had ever performed since I've been captain (despite the last inning, which, we can't take anything away from them, was mainly just good hitting). Dan was the star of the night for our cause. Hats off for a homerun, two doubles, and a heckuva fielding perfomance in center. Hats off as well to Barbara and Ashlee -- who played hard and allowed us to play at all. With only seven guys and two ladies, we were a razor's edge from having to call it a forfeit. Hopefully the circumstances that kept so many people busy will not be as pronounced next week. So....for those who were there especially...let's put this one in the past...and think about next week. The next game is Wednesday. I'll send everyone the details later. Let's not just scrape by with enough players! Until the next e-mail, Doug
