Date: Mon, 6 May 2002 19:05:55 EDT From: DWoodwell1@aol.com Subject: softball results Hi everyone! With no forfeits and a full complement of women every game, Frogs in Space put forth an excellent team effort this spring. We won like a team, and, as was the case on Sunday, occasionally lost like a team... The only thing that seemed to go right for FIS on Sunday was the weather. After that...it was all pretty much downhill. Much of the afternoon was spent watching Mismatched Bases players reach base on swinging bunts and shagging fly balls with their eyes closed. Not that FIS played like a finely tuned machine exactly...but it was pretty much the definition of "just one of those days". After falling behind 14-2 by the fourth inning, FIS managed to narrow the opposition's lead to 8 runs going into the last inning. Mismatched Bases then closed the door, with a 10-run seventh. Final score...FIS 8 Mismatched Bases 26. Everyone should take heart though...spring was just the appetizer before the main course of summer ball. And we did pretty well, I think -- with a final record of 3 wins, 2 loses, and 2 ties. Summer games are scheduled to start next week (theoretically...but I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up pushing it back another week). Games will be held at 5:30 on weekdays. I wrote down that our preferred day was Thursday. I'll let everyone know the details as they arise. Doug
