This 3D model shows the positions and velocities of diffuse gas (green), dense cores (blue) and young stars (red) in the star-forming cluster NGC 1333. You can rotate, zoom, and enable/disable different features.
Velocities are visualized as a third spatial axis. The original view shows right-ascension and declination, with the velocity axis projected into the screen.
Diffuse gas is traced by 13CO (1-0) from the COMPLETE survey (Ridge et al. 2006). Dense cores are traced by N2H+ (1-0) from Kirk et al. 2007. Young star velocities are measured with the APOGEE spectograph, part of SDSS. Full technical details are in Foster et al. (2015).
