SMARTS 1.3m GRB Response Procedures

When a GRB alert is issued by grb-watchd, the observer must decide whether or not to observe the burst. If the burst is to be observed, the observer must then decide which telescope program is appropriate. This web page describes the criteria for making these decisions and also contains some useful information and programs.

What to expect when a BURST ALERT is activated...

So... you've received a BURST ALERT: The OBSERVING PROTOCOL for bursts less than 24 hours old.... (Bursts older than 24 hours will have observations schedualed in the daily queue and can be treated as regular objects.)

DETECTING AN AFTERGLOW: while you're taking GRB data you should look for possible afterglow...

Handy applets for calculating afterglow magnitude and afterglow decay index can be found here.
