Various pieces of information to pass along:

i) astro email was offline from ~12pm - 2pm today. Mail was not being delivered(ie no new messages). This usually means a corrupted message in someone's inbox. I halted the astro mail server and ran a disk check. On Sunday evening I will take the mail server offline (for 6-8hrs) to scan for corrupted email messages.



ii) We have installed an additional wireless access point in the astronomy library. The wireless network name is "yaw_library" and is open access (ie can be used by visitors). This is a temporary measure until we can extend the coverage of the yale wireless network to the library.



iii) A few weeks ago, I restored a deleted webpage from backup on the astronomy webserver. However, I forgot to properly set the file permissions. This meant people could not edit their web projects through the astro "admin" webpage (www.astro.yale.edu/admin).

My mistake was discovered last week and I have reset the file permissions. If you tried to edit or submit an astro web "front page project" in the last few weeks (eg since mid-October), please check that it made it onto the list. You can view the list of projects by choosing menu option "Edit Front Page Project" on the astro admin webpage.



iv) Finally, the color laser printer in JW Gibbs 204 no longer prints yellow. This means yellow graphs come out as white and green becomes blue. I have ordered replacement toner for next week. There is another color laser printer available in the YCAA on fourth floor gibbs.

The color printer in JWG206 is online again.

You can print to the color printer using command "lpr -Pcolor mydoc.pdf" from your workstation.

For the interm, you can use the printer "tektronix" in room 206 (eg lpr -Ptektronix) or lexmark color printer "ycaalp" (eg lpr -Pycaalp) on fourth floor JW Gibbs.
