Re: astro network upgrade

The wiring contractors will start working in offices today. They will commence with the graduate student offices today and tomorrow. Monday they will start on the faculty and postdoc offices on 2nd floor Gibbs.

The contractors will have access to your office while installing wire conduits. They will have to drill holes above the office door for wire access. We will move furniture when necessary to access the walls.

If you have any questions or special instructions, please let us know.

Astronomy network wiring

Beginning tomorrow, Yale Network Operations will start upgrade of our computer network. Technicians will be replacing network wiring in the ceilings & installing network outlets in all department offices.

Tomorrow they will start in the library and wiring in the hallway ceiling. You can expect to see ladders and wiring in the corridors as well as noise from drilling in the library.

We hope to give notice before work begins in each office. We won't know the order in which offices will be affected, how long each office will take until they begin and can survey the rooms.

There will be some disturbance as each office is re-wired. An access hole needs to be drilled for each room, and new wiring conduits will be installed along the walls. Our plan is to install network outlets near the center of the office walls (as opposed to the corners). So we may need to move furniture away from the side walls of offices.

I will keep everyone updated as I receive more information and as we progress.
