www.astro.yale.edu down
The astro web server crashed Saturday afternoon from overheating. When I arrived Sunday afternoon, the temperature in the server room (202) was in the high 90's. I cranked up the ventilation and put the website back online.

astro disk quotas
Hi everyone,
I have started a program that will send daily emails to people who exceed their disk quota in their astro home directory. Exceeding your disk quota causes all sorts of problems, such as not able to login and not able to send email.
Further, the inbox size limit for @astro email account is 500mb. We will start to enforce this limit.

Se (supermongo) plotting program
In November we upgraded to a newer version of SM (supermongo) that allow creation of CMYK postscript graphics.
Most people are still using the old version. In order to use the new version of SM, you need to update your SM preferences file in your home directory.
Backup and delete the ".sm" file in your home directory.
This should be sufficient for most people. For more details read on...
Your ".sm" file contains references to the old version. In particular, all lines containing the path "/usr/local/sm/sm2_4_1/" need to be removed.
After removing your .sm file, it will use /usr/local/sm/lib/sm/.sm to set the default environment. You should not re-define these variables in your personal .sm file (eg fonts, graphcap, filecap, help, macro).
Further information about the .sm files and new SM environment variables, see the "Environment Variables" section of the sm reference manual.
The SM reference manual is available online at: http://www.astro.princeton.edu/~rhl/sm/
A local hardcopy is on our website: http://www.astro.yale.edu/dept/computer/sm.pdf
The section about environment variables can be found at this link: http://www.astro.princeton.edu/~rhl/sm/sm.html#SYN23

I have restarted the RAID driver, remounted the /data/dept filesystem
and restarted NFS on astro8. If you RCV: Stale NFS Handle message, you
will need to log out & back in.
